Our bosom pal Nellie got into University of Texas in Austin. She's going to get her MFA in costume technology! Fancy right? What even IS that??? Do you guys have anything fun for her to do in Austin? Restaurants? Parks? Music? Awesome Stuff? Country Music Lesbian Bars? Let us know! She made us this most awesome Texas mix, which is (of course) just the beginning of MANY Texas themed playlists. Here is our favorite song from the mix:

  2. For Austin, I definitely second Toy Joy and the Alamo Draft House, and Gueros is a pretty popular Mexican restaurant I always go to when I'm there (one of many). There are so many awesome vintage stores, and there's a big antique place on SoCo that I really love, but I can't remember the name of it right now. Also, if your friend is a fan of barbeque, the Salt Lick has the best I've ever eaten! It's just outside Austin in a town called Driftwood.

  3. Do you think you'll have the Hogwarts comic at TCAF, or would waiting until then be a dangerous thing to do?

  4. Congrats to Nellie....tell her Hook'em from a Texas-Ex. For a late night nosh she must go to the original Kerbey Lane Cafe on,of course Kerbey Lane. Delish huge pancakes at all hours. Alamo Drafthouse was the pioneer of the pub dining as you watch a movie (first run and revivals). She must go to the Balcones Fault scenic spot and if she loves a scenic Java fix with great desserts she must try Mozarts on the lake. Barton Springs (natural spring fed and always chilly pool) in the summer is a must. She is going to fall in love with Austin.

  5. Ditto on Domy, a great art/book/comic store. Also, great bars: Liberty (with a totally delicious food cart) and Cheer Up Charlies (queer scene, kombucha on tap).

  6. Half Price Books for cheapo used/new books. Conan's pizza and Kirby Lane are good food places near the campus. Alamo Drafthouse is a great experience... hmm... there are some cool places on Congress as well (can't remember atm). Walking around the town lake is always a great way to pass time AND a great view!

  8. Things to do in Austin: ROLLER DERBY! Austin, TX is the rebirthplace of modern roller derby and is home to two derby clubs: the flat track Texas Rollergirls, still one of the best squads in the world, and the banked track Lonestar Rollergirls, who were the subject of the A&E sort-of-reality show "Rollergirls".

  9. I got my copy of the comic yesterday - looks great! I read it again (I couldn't resist reading the electronic copy you sent earlier). I can't believe how small the Wizarding World is, when I heard they were building it I pictured a whole Disneyland kinda deal. It sounds so little!
Yay for manatees and meeting cool people, boo for getting sick while on vacation.

  10. I love your Harry Potter posters. Are you going to make them available again soon? And is Book 4 coming out soon? I'd love to buy any future ones you make. They are great. I gave them to my HP fanatic daughter for her birthday and I was the best mom ever!
